Citroën C3 I Facelift (2005-2009)

In late 2005, Citroën introduced a comprehensive update for the first-generation C3, aiming to keep the model competitive while meeting new European regulations. The refresh focused not only on emissions compliance but also on visual appeal, interior quality, and driving refinement.

Exterior Design

Externally, the C3 adopted a bolder appearance. The front end was reshaped with a newly designed bumper and a larger lower air intake, giving the car a more solid stance. The grille was refined with slimmer openings, and the license plate was repositioned for a cleaner layout. At the rear, the car received redesigned taillights featuring clear central sections, enhancing its modern look. Depending on trim level, protective black moldings were fitted to the bumpers and doors.

Interior

The interior also underwent noticeable improvements. A redesigned dashboard with higher-quality materials replaced the previous layout, while a more contemporary instrument cluster improved legibility for the driver. Light metallic gray accents were added around the center console and air vents, and both front and rear door panels were completely reworked. The steering system was refined as well, offering increased firmness at higher speeds for better stability.

Engines and Drivetrain

From a mechanical standpoint, the entire engine lineup was updated to comply with Euro 4 emission standards, which became mandatory across the European Union in 2005. A new 1.6-liter HDi turbo-diesel engine producing 110 PS joined the range. The five-speed manual gearbox remained standard, while a four-speed automatic transmission was available on selected versions.

Despite the arrival of a new generation, Citroën continued offering the original C3 in several markets. It was sold under various names depending on the country, such as C3 Classic or C3 First.

Warning

Never use a higher amperage fuse!

Tip

Spare fuses are often in the box cover.
