Citroën AMI (2020-present)

With the launch of the Ami, Citroën completely redefined the idea of urban mobility. Introduced in 2020, the Citroën Ami is not a traditional city car but a fully electric light quadricycle designed specifically for short, everyday trips in dense urban environments. Compact, affordable, and radically simple, the Ami represents Citroën's bold vision of accessible electric transportation.

Dimensions and Design

Measuring just 2.41 meters in length, the Ami is even shorter than many microcars, making it exceptionally easy to maneuver and park in crowded city streets. Its tall, boxy proportions maximize interior space, while the symmetrical body design helps reduce production costs. A unique design feature is its door configuration: the driver's door is rear-hinged, while the passenger's door opens conventionally. This unusual solution allows Citroën to use identical panels on both sides of the vehicle.

Interior

Inside, minimalism takes center stage. The cabin is intentionally stripped down to essentials, emphasizing practicality over luxury. A small digital display serves as the instrument cluster, while a dedicated smartphone mount allows the driver's phone to act as the infotainment system, providing navigation and media via Bluetooth. Additional details include simple storage solutions and a manually operated heater—proof that even this tiny electric vehicle can handle everyday comfort needs. The side windows open by flipping upward, a nostalgic nod to classic Citroën models like the 2CV.

Electric Powertrain

Power comes from a compact 6 kW electric motor driving the front wheels, supplied by a 5.5 kWh lithium-ion battery mounted under the floor. The Ami can be charged from a standard household socket in around three hours, eliminating the need for specialized charging infrastructure. With a top speed limited to 45 km/h and a range of up to 70–75 km, it is perfectly suited for daily commutes, school runs, or local errands.

Availability and Variants

Developed under the Stellantis umbrella, the Citroën Ami was engineered to be extremely affordable to buy and operate. It is available for purchase, long-term rental, or car-sharing in many European markets, and in some countries it can be driven without a full driving license, depending on local regulations.

Since its debut, the Ami has expanded into multiple variants, including lifestyle-oriented versions such as the Ami Buggy and special trims like the Ami Pop. Continuous updates and facelifts have kept the model fresh while preserving its original concept.

In essence, the Citroën Ami is not about performance or luxury—it is about simplicity, efficiency, and redefining what personal mobility can look like in modern cities.
